What Jagex said

"RS4 is not a replacement for any of our games, be it Old School, RuneScape or Dragonwilds. Those games have their own dedicated teams, exciting roadmaps and continued investment."

What it means

RuneScape (often called RS3) continues with its own team and roadmap. RS4 is an additional game in the same world, not a sequel that shuts the current one down.

What to watch next

Watch the official RuneScape roadmap for RS3 plans, and the RS4 page for news about how the games relate, such as accounts, which Jagex has not addressed yet.

Not announced. Jagex lists accounts and progression among open questions. Its principle of permanent progression is about RS4's own design; it is not a promise that existing progress carries over.
