Jagex Is Re-evaluating RuneScape Reignited
Three days after announcing Reignited for 2 December, Jagex apologised to existing players and said every option is on the table. RS4 is not affected.
What changed
On 6 October 2026, three days after the RuneFest announcement, Jagex posted "Reignited: Where We Go From Here". Its first line: "We are re-evaluating RuneScape Reignited." Jagex apologised to existing players for making them feel they were "no longer our focus" and summed up what it had heard from them:
- veteran characters, and the worlds they play on, would matter less than new Reignited ones;
- limits on how veteran and Reignited characters can play together would split a small community;
- players would feel pushed to restart their character to stay relevant;
- a second, separate membership for Reignited felt wrong.
Jagex says it is exploring "a heavy set of revisions" and that "every option for what we do with regards to Reignited remains firmly on the table". It promised to show players its proposals by the end of that week.
The post does not mention the 2 December date. When we checked on 8 October, the official Reignited page still advertised free access from 2 to 12 December.
What it means for RS4
RS4 is not part of this. Reignited is a mode for the existing RuneScape; RS4 is a separate MMO that Jagex says "is still a few years away".
Our reading: Jagex says it wants to make RS4 "with you, not just for you". The Reignited reversal shows how quickly players can change one of its plans, and in public. How that works for RS4 will become clearer once Jagex explains how players can get involved, which it has promised for 2027.
Still unknown
What the revised Reignited looks like, whether it still launches on 2 December, and whether it will still need its own membership.
