How RS4 Fits Alongside RuneScape, OSRS and Dragonwilds

RS4 is a fourth RuneScape game, not a sequel that replaces the others. Here is how it relates to RuneScape, Old School, Dragonwilds and Reignited.

Four games, one world

Jagex now has RuneScape, Old School RuneScape and RuneScape: Dragonwilds already out, and RS4 in development. All are set in Gielinor. Jagex says RS4 will sit alongside the others rather than replace any of them.

Where Dragonwilds comes in

RS4 begins in Ashenfall, the region Dragonwilds introduced, years after its events. Jagex also says RS4 builds on technology lessons from Dragonwilds. That is a shared setting, not a shared game.

Reignited is something else

RuneScape Reignited remasters and restores the existing RuneScape, with Parts II and III planned for later in 2027. It is not RS4.

What we do not know

Whether accounts, progress or purchases connect RS4 with the other games has not been announced.

Not announced. Jagex lists accounts and progression among open questions. Its principle of permanent progression is about RS4's own design; it is not a promise that existing progress carries over.

Will RS4 replace RuneScape or Old School RuneScape?

No. Jagex says RS4 is not a replacement for Old School, RuneScape or Dragonwilds. Those games keep their own teams, roadmaps and investment, and RS4 will sit alongside them as an independent experience.

How is RS4 related to RuneScape: Dragonwilds?

RS4 is a separate game that begins in Ashenfall, the region first explored in Dragonwilds, years after Dragonwilds' events. Jagex says it builds on the technology lessons it learned making Dragonwilds.
